I am often asked how I came to be a writer. After apologizing to the asker for laughing at their question, I explain:
While in high school I had a small group of friends that was as different from one another as can be. Each of us had a love of reading, though very different genres. We also had opinions about how stories should end and characters should behave. Because so many years have gone by I couldn’t tell you how it all started, but there was a bet. Which one of us could finish a book of our own first.
Well, I was not the first in our group to do this, Julie won that honor without question. But I have managed to turn this bet into a career that I truly enjoy for the freedom it brings.
